Palin church burning – ‘hate crime’ virtually ignored?

A religion columnist and journalism professor says the mainstream media’s coverage of the fire that gutted Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s home church has been thin, but it’s hard to say exactly why it’s been underplayed.

Investigators say the fire that destroyed Wasilla Bible Church in Alaska on December 12 was likely the work of an arsonist, but the mainstream news media, with the exception of The Associated Press, has largely ignored the story….

Ninth body found at site of Santa-suit killings

COVINA, Calif. (AP) – A ninth body was found Friday morning at the charred site of a Christmas Eve massacre where a recently divorced man dressed as Santa shot indiscriminately at partygoers and destroyed his former in-laws’ house with a homemade blowtorch.

The attacker, Bruce Pardo, reached a Dec. 18 settlement with his ex-wife, who along with her parents was believed to be among the dead. His lawyer and a fellow church usher were among those who said they had never seen anything to indicate he was capable of such a brutal crime….

Pope decries selfishness in economic crisis

VATICAN CITY (AP) – Pope Benedict XVI in his Christmas message Thursday warned that the world was headed toward ruin if selfishness prevails over solidarity during tough economic times for both rich and poor nations.

Speaking from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on the day Christians commemorate Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, Benedict declared that the “heart of the Christian message is meant for all men and women….”

Beware of liberals bearing gifts.  Inside bailout programs is hidden a clandestine agenda to throw open America’s gates to sweeping socialism. I guess we won’t know how similar the liberal agenda really is to that of the Nazis until we have our own staged event like Hitler’s Reichstag fire that he used to suspend freedoms in Germany, in furtherance of his goal of complete control of the country by a legally established dictatorship.

Archbishop warns of dangers of economic dogma

LONDON (AFP) — Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams warned Monday that governments should not pursue dogmatic solutions to the financial crisis at the risk of the most vulnerable, saying that is what the Nazis did.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph newspaper, he said Hitler’s movement was based on a system of principles that “worked quite consistently once you accepted that quite a lot of people that you might have thought mattered as human beings actually didn’t”.

Williams, the most senior cleric in the Church of England, said that in the current climate, “what looked like a principled defence of some of our economic assumptions… seems more ragged and vulnerable than it once did”.

He questioned the human costs of measures to tackle the downturn.

“What about the unique concerns and crises of the pensioner whose savings have disappeared, the Woolworth’s (bankrupt store) employee, the hopeful young executive, let alone the helpless producer of goods in some Third-world environment where prices are determined thousands of miles away?” he asked.

Williams added: “How we all work is vastly complicated — no one is pretending it isn’t. But without these anxieties about the specific costs, we’ve lost the essential moral compass.”

Not to worry. The Treasury printing presses are running day and night to cover the national debt. Except those presses are lubricated with the mashed up bodies of the nations old people and fixed-income retirees. Reminds me of the title of that WWII movie drama with the Duke and Robert Montgomery, “They Were Expendible.” What a wonderful feeling being irrelevant.

Uncle Sam Will Pay $450 Billion This Year Just to Cover Interest on National Debt

Downturn Spurs “Survival Panic” for Some in the U.S.

(Reuters) A paralegal, recently laid off, wanted to get back at the “establishment” that he felt was to blame for his lost job. So when he craved an expensive new tie, he went out and stole one.

The story, relayed by psychiatrist Timothy Fong at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital, is an example of the rash behaviors exhibited by more Americans as a recession undermines a lifestyle built on spending.

In the coming months, mental health experts expect a rise in theft, depression, drug use, anxiety and even violence as consumers confront a harsh new reality and must live within diminished means….
